Pennsylvania Center for Advanced Manufacturing Careers

Recognizing that manufacturing is a critical economic sector within the Commonwealth and desiring to assist this sector towards economic recovery, the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board (PA WIB) decided on September 30, 2009 to create the Pennsylvania Center for Advanced Manufacturing Careers. The Center's overriding mission will be to develop long-term strategies aimed at averting and reversing the decline of manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania.

Whenever possible, the Center will build on and promote statewide the best practices already developed by existing industry-led regional manufacturing Industry Partnerships, successful local economic development initiatives and our educational systems successes.

The Center will be guided by a Leadership Council consisting of manufacturing employers, labor representatives, AMDM Industry Partnership representatives and other leaders in workforce development, economic development and education.

Critical Shortages of Precision Machining and Industrial Maintenance Occupations in Pennsylvania's Manufacturing Sector details the industry's need for a skilled and highly trained workforce. There are 72,000 individuals working in as precision machinists and industrial maintenance technicians in Pennsylvania. The PA Center for Advanced Manufacturing Careers estimates that employers will need between 15,000 and 17,000 more during the next decade.
