The Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers
In April 2004, in order to address Pennsylvania’s significant need for health care workers, the governor created the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers as an initiative of the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board.
The Center serves as a catalyst to develop action-oriented strategies to address Pennsylvania's short- and long-term health care workforce challenges. The key challenges the Center seeks to address are:
-
Increasing the capacity of Pennsylvania’s nursing education system
-
Retaining health care workers in health care professions
-
Responding to the demand for critical allied health professions
-
Addressing the needs of direct care workers
To carry out this assignment, Governor appointed a diverse
Leadership Council of health care employers, labor representatives, and educators chaired by
Eileen Connelly, President of the SEIU State Council,
Jan Fisher, President and CEO of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, and
Patty Knecht, Director of Practical Nursing at the Center for Arts and Technology-Brandywine Campus.
