Allied Health Workgroup
The Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers’ Allied Health Workgroup is comprised of organized labor leaders, educators, hospital administrators and allied health workers. The workgroup is committed to resolving one of the more challenging aspects of the health care industry. After the release of its 2008 report, “Addressing Priority Issues in Selected Allied Health Occupations,” the workgroup began to address several of the recommendations outlined in the document, including increasing educational programs’ clinical capacity and improving the image of allied health occupations. The workgroup’s co-chairs are Eileen Connelly, executive director of SEIU Pennsylvania State Council and Vicki Hoak, executive director of the Pennsylvania Homecare Association.
The workgroup is attempting to secure funding and launch a statewide campaign to inform dislocated workers and high school students about careers in allied health occupations. Additionally, a recent, statewide survey and has gathered a significant amount of data related to clinical capacity in allied health programs throughout the commonwealth. The workgroup will analyze this data while developing strategies to improve the clinical capacity in educational programs.
